Call for Nominations for Board of Directors
The Lake Winnipeg Indigenous Collective seeks to advance Indigenous values, perspectives and knowledge in the protection and restoration of Lake Winnipeg for all future generations. Our members come from around the lake and Ininiw, Anishinaabe, Métis and non-Indigenous peoples who are determined to fulfill their responsibilities towards the lake.
We are looking for 2-4 passionate and dedicated volunteers to join our board of directors.
We are looking for applications from Indigenous people living around the lake
We value having a range of perspectives experiences. We are encouraging women, two-spirit members, and people with disabilities to consider joining the board.
Priority Areas
The collective is a newly incorporated organization as of 2024, we are looking for directors who can further help us to develop and strengthen our financial and organizational policies.
We are particularly interested in expertise and experience:
Finance and accounting, a professional chartered accountant
Human resources or staffing
Not-for-profit governance
Legal
Marketing and public advocacy
What’s involved with being a director?
Directors at the collective meet six times a year for both in-person and online meetings. The board is the primary decision-making body of the organization. Through consensus, they provide strategic direction, hold the staff accountable and manage risks if running a not-for-profit organization. Board members are expected to join a committee as part of their role.
The time commitment varies throughout the year, but averages 4 to 6 hours per month.
The Nominating Committee will meet with new directors to introduce them to the board and ensure they have a handle on the process. Where appropriate, the collective will seek training and development for the board to support good governance.
