A Day at Peguis First Nation

Lake Winnipeg Indigenous Collective team members Rebecca and Carlie had the opportunity to harvest the Pitcher Plant, also known as “Frog Pants” to the Ojibway people. Knowledge Keeper Kathy Bird showed us the ropes as we got deep into the bush to harvest. Once we finished harvesting, we travelled further down the road to Peguis School Board Camp, a camp that allows Peguis First Nation youth to work while learning Indigenous traditions during the summer. The Peguis Day Camp graciously invited us for lunch in which we ate delicious bannock and stew, and some blueberry pie for dessert. We also had the opportunity to take a boat ride across Lake Winnipeg!
